The Peak’s Bet On Canada Summit

Tuesday, September 17th was Calgary’s Bet on Canada Summit, hosted by The Peak, that held talks and panels with Canada’s top leaders in business. I was lucky enough to volunteer, which allowed me to meet some amazing speakers and sit in on some insightful talks.

My favourite talk was the 1:1 chat, Cybersecurity and AI: What Business Leaders Need To Know, hosted by Danielle Gifford (Director of AI, PWC) and Tola Jimoh (Founder, Cyber Strategy Consulting), who I both had a chance to connect with.

What I learned from this Summit was that it’s ok to not have it all figured out, there is always room to change paths, or even create a new one! Everything you do can be applied, and you also got to have some great experiences. Plus, whatever you don’t like helps you narrow down what’s not for you.

What was really cool to see was how passionate all these people are about what they do! It’s interesting to see what motivates people to make impacts and what they love in their jobs. One thing that was really cool to hear was from one speaker, John Garden (Responcible Member at Ulysses), who said that he isn’t in business for the money (although money is money), but rather for the experience. That’s why he constantly sells and rebuilds his business (not falling in love with them), to keep gaining knowledge and freedom to do whatever, with peace at mind that there is always money in the bank. That was an awesome perspective on business I hadn’t heard much before.

These are one of the many kinds of opportunities I will get at TKS, and I intend to make the most out of each one!
