TKS Personalized Medicine Module Wrap Up
I finished the TKS Personalized Medicine Explore Module, here are some of my takeaways.
Personalized Medicine utilizes your genome to make decisions about what kind of treatments you may need in order to treat your disease. Personalized Medicine takes into account many factors such as the speed of your dosage intake, the type of diseases you are prone to having, and the current stage of development your disease is at using biomarkers, which utilize a molecular, cellular, or imaging-based characteristic to identify those indicators.
The speed at which someone processes a treatment varies from a really slow scale, where the dosage may need to be increased because of the slow intake, to a really high intake rate, where the dosage may need to be decreased to make sure you don’t get too much of a dosage at once. This factor is sometimes the reason for treatments having either no effect or unexpected effects on different patients that vary from person to person.
Personalized Medicine is being implemented in a variety of fields, from cancer treatment development, pharmacogenomics (utilizing your genome to determine the right prescription for you), MRNA vaccines (creating proteins of diseases your body has interacted with in order to generate a quicker and more effective immune response), cardiology, autoimmune diseases, mental health, and so much more.
Being able to create different personalized treatments and medicines will help to distribute and create treatment plans that will be more effective and efficient for future patients. The risks will be less because we will be able to determine what kind of reaction your body will have to the medicines and see constant reports of how your body is responding to the treatments, also leaving room to make constant updates and adjustments to your treatment plan.
This explore module has definitely helped me get a better understanding of the general idea of what I want to dedicate my TKS focus to. I can’t wait to learn more about similar topics!
