TKS Session 27: Global Challenge 4 + Velocity Session 17
We have made it to the last week of challenge work, and it’s crunch time. For velocity, we did a recap of our week and how we were being self-disciplined. Last session, we had each chosen two things to be disciplined about this week. Mine were
Get 8+ hrs of sleep every night
No complaining
I was able to get 8+ hrs for almost every night that week, and I was more mindful of my complaining. Then, we talked about the progress we made with our focus. I finished my second trial of the lab research I was doing and have compiled all of the deliverables for science fair.
My intention for this session was to make sure my friend got the full vibe for TKS and understood what the program was about.
Then, we got into session, which was also a special session because it was bring your friend to TKS day at our cohort. I brought a friend of mine who is interested in joining TKS next year.
We started off the session with a little presentation on what TKS is, the same intro we got on our first TKS session. Then, we did an energizer, which included a 4-corner would you rather and a small workout.
Then we talked about the MotW, relentlessness. This means being persistent when you have a goal and being constant with your progress towards it. We looked at how being relentless helps people achieve big goals and big solutions, but too much relentlessness can actually be a bad thing, making that person annoying or very inflexible. You need the right amount of relentlessness where you aren’t backing away from your goals or whatever needs to get done, cause that’s how you make progress, but not too inflexible where you can’t take a step back and try a new idea.
We then looked at the career pyramid again, just so that the new kids could see what kind of people TKS looks to make, The pyramid looks like this:
1. Activators
2. Smart people doing smart things
3. Smart people doing dumb things
————————————-In-between———————-
4. People with degrees
5. Jobs requiring some skill
6. Jobs requiring no skill
To finish off our session, looked at some previous challenge decks in the past, with the focus being looking at the titles. When creating stand-alone decks that will be reviewed by executives, you need titles that will convey what all the information on that slide is talking about. Executives are probably going to look at your slides for only a few minutes, and won’t read all the information on them. So, it’s important that you can get your point across quickly and have the readers understand exactly what your recommendation is with low effort.
So, we looked through our current decks for the challenges and refined our slides to have more descriptive titles that convey what the slide is trying to talk about. That way, we can communicate our ideas quickly and easily to executives.
And that was the end of the session today. The next session will be the global TKS session, which is virtual. It’ll be nice to see people from all over the world in TKS again and take part in some fun activities!
It was cool to bring a friend of mine from school to TKS and get to show them what I’ve been working on.
